Evaluating Zerust Anti-stat Bag for Corrosion Inhibitor Protection
Background: Mike Meyer of Jesco and Matt Mark of Bermo Inc. submitted a sample Zerust Anti-Static bag for corrosion inhibitor performance testing by Cortec Laboratories. Bermo packages electronic component equipment individually and boxes in bulk. This packaging application requires vapor phase and contact corrosion protection as well ESD properties.
Purpose: Evaluate the contact and vapor phase corrosion inhibitor performance of Zerust Anti-Stat film and compare to VpCI 125 ESD film produced by Cortec Corporation. Recommend a appropriate corrosion inhibiting packaging solution for Bermo based on the laboratory test results.

Conclusion: Zerust Anti-stat film doe not provide any vapor phase corrosion (VpCI) protection. Cortec VpCI-125 ESD Film provides vapor phase and contact corrosion protection as well as dissipating any static charge contained within the VpCI-125 ESD bag. The packaging method used by Bermo requires the film to provide vapor phase corrosion protection since the metal to be protected is not in direct contact with the film. Zerust Anti-Stat film is not suitable for Bermos application. Cortec VpCI-125 ESD film provides all the necessary protection required by Bermo.
